Crate Paper | Happy Together

I always love to create layouts, that include my favorite things!  Those favorite things include, hand-stitching, wood grain, my Silhouette Cameo, and the Crate Paper Chasing Dreams collection by Maggie Holmes!  This layout came together just as I envisioned it and it was quick and easy.

I started this layout by drawing a large ampersand with the Silhouette Sketch Pens on a wood grain paper.  Then I stitched over the lines with a dark Pink embroidery floss.  I wanted to add my photo and embellishments inside the ampersand shape, so I placed my photo first.

Next, I started adding a mix of embellishments from the Chasing Dreams collection to the layout.  I mixed chipboard, ephemera pieces, stickers, and buttons to fill in all of the space inside the ampersand.  I love the look of the bright colors from the collection, against the wood grain background!

What are some of your favorite things to do or use on a layout?  I always feel so much more creative when I'm working with techniques and products, that I really love!!

Pinkfresh Studio Design Team Line Up & Escape the Ordinary Blog Hop!

Hello, and welcome to the Pinkfresh Studio Design Team Blog Hop!  I had the privilege of being on the first Pinkfresh Studio Design Team, and I'm so excited to be back.  I have always loved the unique designs of the PF embellishments and papers, and I look forward to sharing monthly inspiration with you!  You should have arrived here from the very talented Beata Valint's Blog.  Let's get to the Hop, and make sure you read all the way through for an awesome GIVEAWAY!!

Today the designers are sharing layouts and projects with the new Escape the Ordinary collection.  This collection is filled with embellishments and papers that can be used for feminine or masculine layouts.  I created a masculine layout for my post today.

The initial inspiration for this layout, was a geometric/origami heart shape.  I checked around on Pinterest for an origami heart tutorial and created mine from one of the papers in the 6x6 paper pad.  Once I had the heart folded, I used my sewing machine to sew a zig zag stitch down the center.

Next, I cut a large geometric shaped heart on my Silhouette Cameo.  Then I layered the smaller origami heart in the center of the larger one.  I mixed the Golden Foil and Leatherette Alpha Stickers to create the title for my layout, wrapping it around the outside edge of the heart.

I finished the layout, by adding some of the puffy stickers, ephemera pieces and chipboard stickers.  All of the embellishments were perfect for completing the design around the rest of the heart.  I also layered a few other embellishments around the origami heart, to help draw the eye to the center of the layout.

We are giving away the entire Escape the Ordinary collection to one lucky winner and stamps/dies totaling more than $100.00 to one winner.

The Winners will be selected randomly from comments left on each of the DT Blogs.  YOU MUST COMMENT ON EACH BLOG THROUGHOUT THE HOP, TO BE ENTERED AS A RANDOM WINNER.

Crate Paper | Tickets Please

Happy Friday Blog friends!  I've got a new layout to share with you today, using the Crate Paper Carousel collection by Maggie Holmes.  And what better photo goes with the Carousel collection, than one of your kids on a carousel!!

As I was browsing through the 12x12 papers, I decided to use the fun Canopy patterned paper.  I really loved the burst design, and the rest of my design was based on the paper.  I placed my photo at the bottom of the page, and I wanted to create a half circle look with the embellishments to resemble a carousel.

I started adding embellishments, with the carousel zebra.  It's placement actually helped to cover up someone else in the photo, that ended up being reflected in the mirror of the carousel.  Layering an embellishment over a photo is a great way to cover up or disguise something that you don't want to show.

I mixed other embellishments from the Ephemera Pack, Chipboard Stickers and Sticker sheet.  I used the Gold Foam Thickers from the collection for my title, and I love the pop of gold layered over the black & white photo.  Once I had all of the embellishing completed, I used my sewing machine to stitch along some of the burst pattern, for extra texture on the layout.

You can find the Carousel collection in some of your favorite online shops!  Head over and grab some of your favorites from the collection!

Crate Paper | Happy

I can honestly say, that I haven't met a Crate Paper collection that I didn't like!  The new Carousel collection by Maggie Holmes, is a collection that definitely falls in that category!  I LOVE everything about it!  There are so many whimsical images and I love the color scheme.  Today I have a new layout to share with you, using the Carousel collection.

Here's the story, on how this layout came together.  The flowers are cut from the Magical patterned paper using my Silhouette Cameo.  I originally planned to use the flowers on a different project, but I changed direction after I had cut the flowers.  I kept them on my desk and decided to use them on a layout instead.  For the layout design, I took inspiration from one of my previous Crate Paper layouts, which used a large covered initial.  This is the original layout:

Even though I used the same idea from this layout, you can see that I changed things up, to get a completely different design on the new layout.  It's always fun to take a previous idea and turn it into something new.

I wanted to keep most of the initial free from embellishments, so I clustered most of the embellishing around the photo.  The Ephemera Pack for the Carousel collection has a ton of adorable pieces, and it was hard narrowing it down to just a few for my layout.  I knew I wanted to mix the Ephemera with stickers, chipboard and the cute clips included with the collection.

To bring balance to the layout, I did decide to create a cluster on the top left-hand side of the initial.  I just had to work one of the cute fabric bows into the layout, and this simple cluster was the perfect spot.

I hope you're looking forward to getting your hands on this gorgeous new collection!!  Keep an eye on your favorite online shops for availability.  And if you missed the full reveal of the collection, you can see it HERE on the Crate Paper Blog.

Crate Paper | She Sells Sea Shells

Summer days are here, and the Oasis collection from Crate Paper is perfect for documenting summer memories!  We recently went on vacation to the beach, so I have a lot of photos to get on layouts.  The inspiration for this layout, started with my photo and a tongue twister that went along with the photo.

I wanted to use the She Sells Sea Shells tongue twister, since our daughter was holding up a shell she found on the beach.  I cut the title on my Silhouette Cameo from one of the papers in the Chasing Dreams collection.  I wanted a more subtle pattern for the background paper, so I could back each of the words with a patterned paper from the Oasis collection.  After looking through the Oasis papers, I couldn't find one that I thought would work for the full background, but fortunately the papers across the CP collections coordinate really well together.

Once all of the words were backed, I machine stitched with a zig zag stitch and a straight stitch.  I like the look the mix of stitches adds to the title.  I placed the photo in the center of the layout, and then started my embellishing, to create a collage look inside the circle.  I used a mix of the Oasis Ephemera Pieces, Chipboard, Stickers, Puffy Stickers and Buttons inside the circle created from the title.  I love having a mix of different kinds of embellishments filling in a shape.

I had a lot of fun with this layout design, and it came together really quickly!  It's important to balance your embellishments, when you're creating this type of design, so make sure you pay attention to the size, color and type of embellishment you're using when creating a collage look on your projects.

Crate Paper | Hello Girl

I'm here today to share a new layout with you using the Cute Girl collection from Crate Paper!  Things have been in disarray around our house for the past couple of weeks.  We decided to close in our dining room to create a 4th bedroom, we've had new flooring going down and new furniture coming in.  Currently, my computer and scrapbook supplies are all on the floor of the bedroom, waiting for new craft room furniture!  So with all of that said, I needed to create a quick and easy layout for today.  That meant no cut files and new sewing with my sewing machine.

I decided the Be You patterned paper would be a great way to add interest to my layout, without all of the bells and whistles I normally use.  I love that this paper has a fun grid design, but that it's a random grid pattern, with different sizes.  The squares and rectangles are perfect spots for adding embellishments.

My printer is also out of commission right now, so I used my SP2 pocket printer to print the photo.  I printed it in black & white because I love the contrast it creates with all of the bright, happy colors in the Cute Girl collection.  I used a mix of the Ephemera Pieces, Stickers, Puffy Stickers and Chipboard to embellish the layout.

Another great thing I forgot to mention about this layout...it only took between 30-40 minutes to complete!  I love the way it turned out, even without some machine stitching, which was really hard for me to leave off!  HA!

Crate Paper | Dreams Are for Chasing

Crate Paper and florals go together like peanut butter and jelly!  I always love the floral designs that are part of the Maggie Holmes collections.  I thought it would be fun to pair the Chasing Dreams collection, with a large die cut flower, that I could back with a mix of patterned papers.

The cut file is a design by Paige Evans and I used it two ways.  I cut the design from White card stock, and flipped it to trace it onto the right side of the background paper, before filling the open spaces with patterned paper.  Once I had all of the design backed with papers from the Chasing Dreams 6x6 paper pad, I adhered it to the background paper and lined it up with the traced pencil line.  Then I punched holes with my paper piercer and stitched over the pencil line.

I placed my photo on the right side of the flower, to fill in the open space.  I loved the effect of all of the patterned paper on the left side of the flower and the look of the background paper showing through the right side of the flower.  I used the “Dreams Are for Chasing” sticker for the title of my layout, and placed it right under the photo.

The fringe butterflies are one of my favorite embellishments from the collection, and I thought one would be perfect on a floral themed layout.  I also brought in a couple of other flowers from the Ephemera Pack and the Chipboard sticker sheet to balance the right side of the layout.

I finished the layout with a few smaller embellishments and a few word phrases, to avoid over-filling the layout. I definitely wanted the large flower and patterned papers to be the focus of the design.
